Hungarian homeopathy

Up to 1948 homeopathy was a beloved and popular medicine in Hungary, with many clinics and pharmacies. There were two cathedras in the Budapest Medical University on Homeopathy. The regime prohibited homeopathy in 1948. Between 1948 and 1991 there was no homeopathy in Hungary at all. The prohibition was raised in 1991. Now that homeopathy is not forbidden in Hungary any more, people can be healed and doctors can work with homeopathy.

The Hungarians starting with nothing but between 1991 and 1997 the Hungarian Homoeopathic Medical Association organized numerous courses and seminars, and some Hungarian doctors started to practice with this method.

Since there is no production of homeopathic remedies in Hungary they all have to be imported. This means some difficulties in practicing homeopathy, but production may start in a few years.

In the summer of 1997 a law concerning alternative medicine was passed which affected the regulation of homeopathy. Fortunately, it was determined that homeopathy is a legitimate method of healing.

Now the next task for the Hungarian homeopaths will be to organize officially recognized examination, so that homeopathic doctors can have a legal specialization from the Medical University in Hungary.
