Development of homeopathy in Ukraine is closely related with spreading of Samuel Hahnemann's ideas in Russia. In the 1820's the most intensive propaganda was carried out in Warsaw, Riga, and Derpt. Homeopathy was under the patronage of Grand Dukes Konstantin Pavlovich and Michail Pavlovich, Emperor Nikolas I, and his daughter Olga Nikolaevna. Homeopaths were supported by the most prominent men of the period in the Ukraine in the 19th century Societies of Followers of Homeopathy, several homeopathic hospitals and homeopathic pharmacies were organized. Celebrities and royalty were members of the Societies. Metropolitan of Saint Petersburg Eminence Antony and Exarch of Georgia Alesky were honorary members.
I.A. Nadezhdin, Real Councilor of State, head of the Kiev Society of Followers of Homeopathy, which was formed in 1891, was the founder of homeopathy in Kiev. E.J. Dukov, enthusiast of homeopathy in Charkov, popularized homeopathy and translated homeopathic literature. Unfortunately, historic events had an unfavorable effect on further development of homeopathy. However enthusiasts have remained in all cities of Ukraine.
The new stage of development of homeopathy began in 1985. The Homeopathic Department was opened in Kharkov and The Homeopathic Society of Kharkov was formed. The Centre of Homeopathy was organized in Kiev. Postgraduate teaching in Homeopathic Medicine was started in Kiev and Kharkov in 1990-92. For the first time in Ukraine in 1992 the Chair of Homeopathy was organized in the Kiev Medical Institute of Ukrainian Association of Alternative Medicine and the training students began. The Regulations of registration of homeopathic medicines in Ukraine passed in Pharmaceutical Committee.
In 1995 the Ukrainian Charitable Fund "Followers of Homeopathy" was organized. The task of the fund is to continue and develop the tradition of similar societies of the 19th century. The principal activities of the Fund are to:
The Fund collaborates with international homeopathic organizations. The President of the Fund Dr. N.E. Kostinskaya is the LMHI National Vice-President for Ukraine.
