Burning |
A sensation of burning heat in joints or muscles or on skin. Felt after scratching of skin eruptions. |
Splinter-like |
Sharp, piercing pain confined to very small area. |
Sticking |
Sharp pain as if pointed object has penetrated the body. |
Stitching |
Sharp cramping pain in a small area as if the body has been caught up or pinched. |
Tearing |
Pain that runs along the body, as if part of it is being torn away from the rest. |
Throbbing or pulsating |
Usually due to inflammation. If serious the pain may be severe. An uninterrupted pain in a localized area worse by pressure. Severe inflammation my also be attended with fever, high pulse rate and severe thirst. |
Boring |
Indicates pressure, ulceration, or inflammation. Pain may be excruciating if the bone is affected. |
Gnawing |
Usually an ulcer pain. Also with growth of tumors. Take great care with this one. |
Aching, sore, bruised |
Apt to be after-effects of overuse of muscles, or from falls and injuries. |
Stiffness |
From deposits of fatigue products in the tissues. Also in rheumatism. |
Gripping and colicky |
Irritation of the bowels, bile-ducts, bladder or ureters will cause this. Patient usually doubles up or flexes his thighs on abdomen for relief. |
